Good. I drove OTR for a while and I wish they would pass a nationwide Constitutional/Open Carry law for a truckers.. They are easy targets for crooks and should be allowed to defend themselves
Highways funded by federal money should have absolute 2nd amendment rights regardless of state. If you build it with federal money, then you must allow open/concealed carry on them. It's how they got the drinking age to 21 across the country, they threatened to withhold highway funding. Would love to see it used for this.
I would love to see automatic nationwide concealed carry if you have your CDL.
I've had my CDL for decades even though I have not used it to make a living more than half the time I've had it.
But I keep it current just in case I get pulled over when hauling one of mine or someone else's collector car in an enclosed trailer with a 1 ton truck.
Serious question: I know nothing about trucking but wouldn't independent drivers who are willing to go into those areas basically be able to set their own price? Again, i know nothing about trucking and i'm probably way off on this.
Nah, the load brokers set the price and offer them up at the cheapest rates possible, and then the drivers take them. There have actually been quite a few drivers protesting lately because brokers tend to screw over the drivers.
A large portion of the industry is owner-operated though. This means the person that owns the truck has some negotiating power when it comes to loads. I know several owner-operators and brokers. It usually comes down to them two negotiating over the profits.

Yes. If enough drivers refuse loads, the rate on those loads will go up.
