I work in the office of a fairly large trucking company.
This sentiment is real, and a little worrisome for some parts of the country.
Remember everyone, food comes on trucks, medical supplies come on trucks, new pieces of infrastructure like power transformers, traffic lights, water purification equipment comes on trucks. What is going to happen to the places that can't get that equipment?
Yeah, I don't like the corrupt socialist officials running these places, but as someone living in a Blue state, I can't help but feel for those people stuck in those areas unable to afford to leave.
Before the "De-fund the police" BS drivers were getting nervous about going into certain areas.
Remember the guy who got pulled out of his orange tanker and nearly killed by the mob? The police screwed up some of the road closures and he almost gets killed because rioters are blocking commerce in the city.
Even though it wasn't his fault, how do you think the FedEx driver feels that someone died in between his trailers? 1000% percent was not that driver's fault and I know he feels some guilt or some PTSD from the entire experience.
We have had to tell multiple drivers to shut down and let the load be late, wait well outside of town and we will get it in when it is safe. Don't risk a life for the load. Did you know most drivers are unable to carry a firearm due to DOT and different state regulations? Constitutional Carry needs to happen last year.
Add this on top of the Shanghai Shivers problems we had earlier this year....many restaurants were only allowing drive up and no walk up. Drivers were having a hard time finding places to eat. Or the shippers/receivers were not allowing them to use their restrooms.
Folks, we already have a MASSIVE truck driver shortage in this country, and the problem is not going to be solved with automation any time soon. Truck drivers tend to be on the older side and are starting to retire all over the place. The younger generation is not taking up those jobs. How many more are going to retire/leave the industry or not join the industry in the first place when you are seeing the trucks get looted and no police around to stop them?
Most truck drivers are hardworking American Patriots. We need more of them desperately.
If you're reading this and you're really honestly and truly MAGA, and you really believe in this country, please thank a truck driver. If you're driving by a truck, give them room, make sure you can see the mirrors, give them plenty of braking room when you change lanes, and stick your freedom loving fist in the air and give them the horn pump out the window. They love that shit.
I’d also like to see a post. My dad is a trucker and he’s also nervous about ever sleeping on street or being stuck in city and not able to return to terminal. Sure he has the tire bar to use for defense but he and I would feel a LOT more piece if he could “carry a piece”.

The truck driver "shortage" is a myth. There is only a shortage of drivers willing to work for the shit money that the mega carriers are willing to pay. In the meantime, they repeatedly hire fresh rookies out of the driving school mills. Most of those rookies burn out due to shit conditions, pay and work ethic within a year or two. These rookies are also the source of most trucking accidents by the way. I guess the cost/benefit of dealing with accident claims has been calculated in. But, the cycle continues. The carriers don't care. They have a steady supply of cheap labor, and cry "shortage" year after year, prompting a clamor for "self driving" trucks. Ha. And the pay of drivers continues to plummet.
Exactly this! I made the mistake of going to trucking school and signing with mega carrier. Nearly 80% of the people including myself quit within a couple months for the reasons you laid out. The pay they advertised was not even close to what i actually made. There was actually a class action lawsuit against this company for not paying trainees the equivalent of minimum wage during the 1 month of over the road training. Could go on about all the other lies and shady practices i saw during my short time there... If there is a shortage these companies have nobody to blame but their self. Luckily i found a maintenance job at the airport near me shortly after i left.
EDIT: Almost forgot but worth noting.. My trainer backed into another truck at a rest stop the first night i was on the truck lol. Needless to say the training was a complete joke. They have no issues throwing someone into a truck with little to no training and hoping they figure it out on their own.
Pam was the company i worked for. In the same league as swift from what iv heard. Yeah man its rough and defiantly not for most people. If you're doing over the road maybe you could find a local driving job but you should defiantly look for a different type of job if its making you feel that way.
I work in a receiving office of a company that deals with 40k lb master coils. They shit I see and the questions I get from rookie drivers is enough to make your blood run cold. Needless to say, I tell everyone I know to give truckers a wide berth because you never know the quality of the person behind the wheel.

You should make a separate post with this to get more eyes pede!
Agreed. Would love a deep dive on this info
I'll work on something a little more comprehensive and shoot a tag your way.
Anything specific you're curious or want more info on?

Thank you friend, I'll try cook something up!
I kind of felt like I was rambling like creepy Joe there, but I am glad some very fine people appreciated it!
I really loved this:
Not rambling at all, that was an interesting read, thanks for taking the time to post it!

Garbage son, get in the waste industry. Been here 25 years, recession proof, good pay and benefits and home every night.

Personally I think it's long past time to start starving out these diverse shitholer cities.
And I say that as someone stuck in a blue shitholer city.
Let them eat communism
And the People's Garden just got destroyed
But what of the Somali cuisine ! Parts of Minnesota would starve!
Thank you. From a truck driver
