Well, the Chinese Cultural revolution took place in a country ravaged by a series of almost unending prior catastrophes, of which the Japanese occupation was only the latest. I don't think you can give a tiny handful of soft soy Marxists the same odds.
Of course, they do have an almost unbelievably corrupt academic/media (and more and more, pieces of the justice system) framework that's slowly been converted to their side, so who knows. But all things told, I think most folks are looking at the wrong historical precedents here. This is looking at lot more like the Spanish Civil War than anything else so far.
