The confederacy had exemptions from military service for slave owners, so the soldiers were mostly non slave owners. The wealthy were allowed to pay to avoid the draft. They drafted soldiers, including boys, under penalty of death for desertion. So it's no surprise that many of the soldiers are poor boys forced to fight or be executed, and no surprise moms wanted statues of baby faced confederate soldiers put up.

They broke off from the united states to fight for their stupid ideology, they drug a lot of unwilling people along with them and ended up oppressing themselves more than the North ever would have, then a lot of them were killed when the country retook them and the damage to their homes lasted generations.
