When slaves in Texas heard they were freed since information moved more slowly back in. Juneteenth is symbolic of the day when there were no more slaves in America.

It's only really celebrated in Texas. They have small parades in various cities. I've lived in 4 states and hadn't heard of it until moving here.

It celebrates the signing of the emancipation proclamation by Lincoln, I thinks it's June 18th.

Thank you kind Pepe, I stand corrected.

It is a huge thing here in Texas. The slaves in Texas did not get the news that they were now free men and women until June 19th couple of months after it actually occurred

If you lived in the South you would have certainly heard of it. Some of the best fish frys I've ever been to in my life were on juneteenth

It's scary just how many people in our movement don't seem to actually like black people, or have ever spent much time around them at all, even though the President we love so dearly loves black people himself... He has always had many black friends and I don't mean that ironically, I'm dead serious... If you actually believe he is any different in real life then you have been listening to mainstream media way too fucking much. Trump isn't being disingenuous about this for the votes and if you think he is then you don't know him at all....

Unfortunately these days just saying you lived in the South really isn't enough because there are pockets in the South that are almost worse than out west and then there were pockets in the South that are majority black or legitimately 50/50 like my area..... anyone who grew up around here almost certainly had black best friends at some point and is guaranteed to have work with plenty of black people in their adult life. oddly enough even most of our churches around here that you would consider black churches are at least thirty or forty percent white people and other nationalities. we also have a very large Korean population because we play host to a bunch of Kia and Hyundai factories and subsidiary factories for their parts.

So I guess it kind of matters where in the South you were raised but anywhere within a couple hundred miles of me and you definitely know what that date is, or at least you know something big happens on that day even if you don't know the name of it, because you'll see fish frys up every other driveway and there'll be hundreds of cars parked at some houses.

I have been to a few of them where I was the only white person there but that was mostly when I was much younger. Since I've been an adult there's usually at least 10 to 20 white people every time I go to one of these absolutely amazing fish frys. I just can't stress enough how fucking great Ms Pope's fillet catfish is... The only fight I've ever seen at these things was over the last fish lol. I'm not even joking though it's literally one of my favorite events of the year. Nobody on this planet knows how to put on a family style party quite like black folks. You will literally have the time of your life and I've never even for one second felt out of place, not since I've gotten older anyway.

This. I've lived around and worked with black people my entire life. The South is much less segregated than the North.

I have also been treated better as a general rule by people of color than other white people my entire life too. if you are an insulated white person who doesn't like blacks than you are a serious part of the problem and you need to go hang out with some good black folk and you will learn that people are just people wherever you go you have a few nut cases of every stripe but by and large every type of person is overwhelmingly good and wants the same things out of life as you do

I can't possibly agree with this enough...

Starting to get the feeling that a lot of trump supporters aren't actual Southerners.. don't get me wrong that's a great thing but I've come to realize in my adult life the stereotypes Hollywood teaches us are completely fucking backwards and the south is the least racist part of the country... Having traveled very little outside of the South, I literally grew up thinking that the north/west must be an absolute heavenly utopia if what I was experiencing throughout my young life was supposed to be the most racist part of the country, the way I had always been told it was.....

I always grew up wondering what the fuck all the fuss was about because I lived in the deep South in a town that was nearly fifty fifty and we've never once had a problem, at least in the last 20 to 25 years...

My school was literally 50/50 and still is to this day.. it's where my daughter goes and her best friend since kindergarten has been a little black girl, just like my best friend up until middle school was a black kid... That's just the way it was. My daughter goes to spend the night at their house all the time and whenever she's not there then usually Leah is at our house vspending the night...

Needless to say this shit is extremely confusing for them because they really deep down don't understand it at all.. Leah's dad and I sat them down together last week and had a long talk with both of them.... Now we're just hoping that it worked and that they ignore what the school and news tells them and only go by the experiences they have in real life, exactly like them being each other's best friend..... my daughter looked at me like I was nuts the first time I ever casually mentioned something about Leah being black... As if she hadn't even fucking noticed....

I grew up in racially mixed neighborhood too. When you live, go to school, play, and then work with people of color you cannot begin to fathom where the racist hatred comes from.

I used to work with a guy from Long Island who moved to Texas in his mid-20's. He couldn't believe what it was like down here - he said there was much, much more racism in Long Island than what he saw here.

I Blame the destruction of Family, Religion, Community.

I 100% agree on the Sharing of food & culture as the ultimate icebreaker.

Familys meet in church, invites arise out of that, communities find all sorts of silly & fun excuses for gatherings centered around family food & Fun !

it's the vacation -breather, and reward for the serious work and participation in a community. Raising a family, education, WORK...

in the vacuume of the above, protests and riots take on that rock concert feeling for the Mob and that dubious 'fun' is EZ pickings for the Agenda Usurpers.

I have Fond memories of supper with a friend, whose wife cooked the best damn porkshop I ever tasted in my life..LOL Food is a HUGE bridge builder.

Apparently it's a holiday where white people aren't allowed to do anything.

TheTexan 2 points ago +2 / -0

Bullshit. Who told you that?

All the leftists who insist that holding a rally that day is racist. It's supposedly about celebrating emancipation, but since when does freedom mean everyone has to drop what they're doing and worship according to the demands of an outraged mob? Sounds more like an Islamic call to prayer than an American holiday.

It's called cultural sensitivity. I'm sure our black conservative friends will appreciate the gesture. You don't have to go out of your way to be an asshole, like the left does.

Just like I would never call a young black kid "boy". I call them "young man", because for a long time grown black men were called "boy" as a term of derision.

Nothing wrong with choosing to not be an asshole.

What's disrespectful about Republicans holding a rally that day? Especially considering that it represents our liberation from the leftist COVID lockdowns. What, laying down hundreds of thousands of lives wasn't considerate enough? The complaints aren't about cultural sensitivity at all, they're just using it as another excuse to beat us up. It never had any widespread popularity, and it's not like we were hijacking some massive jubilee that was originally scheduled that day. If Trump wants to reschedule that's his business. I've got no problem with courtesy and I'm glad the slaves were emancipated, but I'm sick and goddamn tired of getting accused of racism and being expected to roll over like a whipped dog every time some screeching faggot decides they're offended by my freedom. There's courtesy, and then there's just being a chump.

TheTexan 1 point ago +1 / -0

There are lots of black Republicans these days and it is not being a chump to consider them in the scheduling. It is not for white, Asian, or Hispanic Republicans only
