What I suspect happened was, they were probably still considered a leftist regime back then, so our pseudo-intellectuals probably thought the nazis were ahead of their time just for being socialists.
Then the left distanced themselves from the horrors of the holocaust and the nazis became right-wing extremists and America is now bad for a few leftist Americans having sympathized with them.

I don't buy your last paragraph. You're conflating the US, with those individuals who own the Fed. That's the origin of the DS, 1913.
