First, ask them what happened. 3 year olds can explain stuff. If not a good enough answer,
Call the police, then bring them to be checked by a doctor TODAY!
That's an abrasion. You need to report this to the police after asking for an explanation from the daycare workers. They have a responsibility to inform you of injuries to your child. I can't believe they didn't know this happened, which makes this even more troubling. Just be aware that complaining about this is going to get your child expelled & you'll need to find a new daycare center.
It doesn’t look like he was choked to me. It looks like a bad scrape or a more mild cut. Did you ask him about it (I don’t know if he can talk or not[i don’t have any kids myself yet])?
Definitely go to a doctor and maybe the police. (Like now)
You should ask whoever was taking care of him. It might be an innocent accident like a fall or something. (Actually maybe not, they might destroy evidence. Just go to the police and have them question.)
Is there a higher quality photo? Document everything.
It could have been the end of the branch and as he fell it scraped across his neck.
But I don't see that happening unless he fell in a bush or something.
Figure it out later. The last thing you should do right now is rationalize what happened to him. The fresher the trauma the better to know what caused it. If it's all innocent after looking into it then so be it, but right now, you need to act fast and go through the process of assuming the worst. But calmly, of course. Stoic.
Also, once you go through the process of all this and the daycare is alerted, they'd be more careful. Although I suggest pulling him out of there. You don't know what next time could bring.
Was the child wearing a button down shirt in the front or a tighter tshirt? My initial reaction is that someone grabbed his collar while he was running or pulled. This should absolutely be reported and reviewed by a trained professional. Also, do not ask him any questions about this directly or 'lead' him in conversation. If he presents any information log it. Otherwise, details can potentially be thrown as non-credible out if you try to investigate yourself.
These are ok questions. You don't want to ask, "Who did this to you?" or "Did someone do this to you?". If this happened at the school, they should provide an incident report. Did they provide any information? Present this information to the leadership of the daycare and provide them with whatever information the 'teachers' provided you.
Honestly? I was a foster parent for a very long time and am a child care professional. I saw really good parents have children removed from their homes for marks (due to other helicopter moms). I have also had children in my home that were indeed abused and had similar marks to this due to strangulation from adults in their lives. It sucks, and yes I'm much more protective than I would like to be. But I have also had to defend myself against false allegations and my documentation, video, and thoroughness have been a hard requirement in my life.
Also, these are clearly not typical bumps or bruises for a three year old.
Get it checked by a doctor. I've had weird looking injuries like this before from running around doing normal kid stuff. Tell your minipede to be more careful
maybe go to a doctor and ask if they think this should be brought to the police and perhaps a child psychologist who specializes in abuse they would know the signs to look for.
Obviously the most likely cause is some kind of playing accident, happens all the time to kids, but if it's got you freeked out then DO NOT ignore that! Always listen to your gut on these things but no need to go crazy bitch on anyone until you've got more facts though so why not get a professional opinion or 3..? Then decide what to do.
Years ago my daughter came home from school with a similar injury on her neck. At her school they had these play things made from a string with a ball on one end and a cup on the other. Apparently one of the kids got theirs wrapped around my daughter's neck, and like a fuckwit yanked it to get it free. We switched schools.

He says he fell down but then says a branch hit him. It just seems too straight for a branch to be perfectly horizontal at 2.5 feet.
His grandpa picked him up and took a photo of what it looked like before. There are high quality photos.
I'm trying to figure it all out right now.
Still go to doctor and police. Just in case.

Yeah, it could be that.
Still ask “what happened today?” Or “how did you get hurt?”

He wasn't wearing a button down. I'm trying not to interrogate him, never thought of that. I'm doing my investigation now. I'll be back with updates.

Holy shit! Call the cops!
Police report then medical exam. Take photos from different angles.
Do it today.
new day care is in order

This is what it's looking like, we are still playing it safe. My minipede is a little reckless, I was afraid he'd take that after me.
Looks like a friction burn from something long and thin, maybe a shoelace?
Looks too straight to be an accident to me but I'm no expert.

just my rando opinion.
I appreciate this. I've gone crazy bitch before and been wrong so I'm treading lightly but seriously until I have all I need.
Get it checked ASAP.
Looks like someone attempted to garrotte him. Maybe a large diameter rough material jump rope?
Ask him if one of the kids lassoed him.

Some helpful info found here: https://www.injuryclaimcoach.com/daycare-liability.html
It should have be documented by the day care even if a twig.
