I've been hearing the word "Juneteenth" in media lately. According to Cuckipedia, it's an American holiday, also known as "Freedom Day", celebrated annually mostly by African Americans on June 19th. " It commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union general Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free"
I've lived in America my whole life and never heard of it until now. I've asked a few other people my age and they've never heard of it either. Has anyone here heard of it before? Just curious...
Yes, but only in Texas.
Can confirm growing up in Texas everyone had some familiarity with the day and the concept.
Plus my Dad's best friend's birthday was on Juneteenth :-)
same. town my g-ma lives in has a parade for it every year.
When I first heard it I thought it was "Juneteeth" a holiday in mid June where you take a baseball bat and knock the teeth out of ANTEETHA and then you have children go around and collect them so they can exchange the teeth for candy and prizes
76 year old college grad and never heard of it in all my days. Just like in 76 years I have never seen a moral liberal.
everyone needs to stand up to it. Gotta quit playing along and being afraid of consequences for it.
Not actively opposing it is supporting them.
Nope. Had to look it up as well, to see if it was legit or just some made up BLM bullshit. Seems like it has some history to it.
Yeah, it was taught in history classes down here, before common core and busing and the decline of schools.
It has always been a thing, blacks usually celebrated and sometimes throw a festival. Galveston used to celebrate it but then race-baiters promoted it and thugs messed it up. Businesses would board up because it got so bad on black beach weekend, which led to racisms charges and more race-baiting...
Yeah, it's always been a thing, history. Not that it matters, for instance no one can name the date word got to say Memphis, but people know it was Juneteenth down here.

That’s all I’ve ever known it for - black beach weekend.
Yes.
Yeah it’s definitely a thing here in Texas
Yes, from black friends on social media.
Nope. Never
Nope
Last year...one time...
I am not trying to be contrary, but I grew up in Louisiana, and this was a part of growing up.
I'll never care about it
I posted this on another thread, but I'll repeat it here: Although I live elsewhere now, I grew up in Tulsa (62,m) and I remember first hearing about it almost thirty years ago. The local celebration started small but quickly grew, and now it's huge. Food vendors, music acts, craft booths, etc. I used to serve on the board of the Scottish Festival in September and we were glad our date wasn't opposite them.
Nope, but current timeline dictates that it was called something different 3 weeks ago.
I'm 61 and I've heard of it. I think its GREAT that The Current Republican President is going to Tulsa to celebrate Juneteenth with the black citizens there. It is disappointing that he's wimped out. This would be an opportunity to remind people why the South seceded, and which party decided to take their slaves away.
Nope, never heard of it being an actual holiday. Not until Trump scheduled a rally on that day
Nope, apparently it's regional. And seems to be the opposite of racist
Nope.
I’ve never heard of it in NC. Nobody else I asked has either.
I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and people were having a fit so Trump changed the date for his rally. Lived here since I was 64 years old and never heard of Juneteenth until Trump announced his rally.
Nope. Had no idea what it was until last Monday. Saw it in my calender and tried to delete it but can't.
Of course it's made up. Trump picked a day to have a rally and the news did a "On This Day In History" search and picked the thing that makes him look the worst.
True dat!
