I am sure this is going to get down voted to all hell, but if you shoot a man who is running away from your house after he robbed your house, you are going to go to jail. Whether you think that is right or wrong, it is what happens. So these two will face charges (or at least the one that shot him) rightly or wrongly.
The fact that two cops couldn't take this man down is pathetic and shows our police need MUCH more training in hand to hand combat.
He stole one officer's tazer shot him with it, it was at that moment the other cop shot him and killed him . You can clearly see it on the video he wasn't just running away, he ran turn and shot the tazer at the closer officer.
I do think cops should know better take down techniques, but we aren't hiring UFC fighters, they should have more non lethal tools at their disposal
How are you comparing someone robbed your house to this incident? The guy punched the cops, stole his taser, and then ran away while firing a taser at an officer.
Trained better, are you saying cops should be stronger? Brooks was a 27 male who looked to be in good shape. So you want to eliminate female police and increase physical standards. The left wants a social worker police force, which is the opposite of this.
I am saying once a suspect begins running away you legally (as a civilian or an officer) don't have the reasonable suspicion that he is going to harm you which is what affords you the right to shoot and kill him.
You can disagree with it, but its the law.
Lets say during the struggle between all three they had shot him, I would completely agree the shooting was 100% justified, because they were clearly being threatened with bodily harm (and if he had got the gun and not the taser possibly death). So if they shot him then, they would be legally within their rights.
But once he begins a full on retreat the law on what you are allowed to do to him changes. So the comparison to a burglar who is running down the street away from your house is an apt comparison. You can't just shoot him in the back as he is 50 yards away and running away from you. You will be charged and go to jail.
As to your second point, yes, I would like the cops to be trained in Jui Jitsu and other forms of martial arts. The physical standards to be a cop need to be on par with the military (before they began relaxing standards so women could go into combat).
In fact i think it should be mandatory as part of ongoing training. If you cannot single handedly subdue a suspect using just your body you shouldn't be allowed to work the streets. So yes, most female officers should never see the streets. If that makes me sexist so be it.
For females especially the number one thing that equalizes their power to that of someone who is physically stronger than them is a gun, which is why i say that all women should conceal and carry. But as an officer if thats the only thing that makes you able to stop someone you are going to rely on that more than you should in situations that you don't feel you can handle.
