A: Ted Cruz team lied about Ben Carson dropping from the race, hoping to get his votes. Carson hadn't announced it yet and he was still in the race at that moment. Trump jumped on it and called him a liar (rightfully so, but it didn't come directly from Ted Cruz himself). That became Lyin' Ted.
