They're emotionally possessed.

When your entire argument is fundamentally emotion, it can't survive even gentle ribbing - because it can expose any random underlying absurdity.

When forced into a conversation, I've been using a technique that gets to the point quick.

(Sincere puzzlement, grudging question) "Last Republican Mayor of Atlanta, 1879, what can we do to make Democrat cities, schools, and cops less racist?"

They aren't using any sort of rational argument, so ... no reason to play fair in return.

I agree but unfortunately the Republicans are too busy trying to be liked by everybody.
