Ticket for DUI? Nope. He was probably on probation.

61
daty_dato 61 points ago +62 / -1

He was out of jail because of Covid. He would have gone back immediately and probably would have gotten additional time.

His license was expired no doubt. He's been in jail for 6 years though a DWI a ways back doesn't mean he wasn't able to have one legally.

22
BoughtByBloomberg 22 points ago +22 / -0

No not through DWI. CHILD ABUSE. He beat his kids so mercilessly they threw him in jail.

Where’d you guys find this out?

So he gets away and hijacks a car and kills people fleeing, that's what was prevented. It's not just about the cops safety, he stole a weapon and could have harmed more people. Think people.

7
BoughtByBloomberg 7 points ago +7 / -0

He wasn't running for his life. He fought the cops and tried to tase one of them so he didn't go back to jail.

He was begging to get shot. imagine if he had managed to rip the service gun away instead of the taser? We'd be looking at a dead cop and a dead crook.

-3
CodeMonkey -3 points ago +2 / -5

I agree fwiw. Guy was running away, nobodies' lives were being directly threatened.

18
Bluestorm83 18 points ago +18 / -0

Others have said that his sentence was 7 years, for child abuse. Can't confirm, don't have source, just passing what others said.

22
kag45 22 points ago +22 / -0

It's confirmed here: http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/GDC/Offender/Query

Search by gdc id: 1001370147

Guy has an insane record and was clearly trying to avoid breaking parole.

Simple battery, family violence battery, false imprisonment, and cruelty to children all seem to have been committed on the same date. Anyone know the details of what he did that day?

The most serious offense seems to be false imprisonment, which got him 7 years. What exactly is that?

This is fake news FFS. He was not released from jail because of covid.

He was a piece of shit enough to not be spreading this bullshit.

-7
daty_dato -7 points ago +5 / -12

Provide a link showing otherwise. No one here is saying it was an excuse and that he wasn't a drunk piece of shit who's actions led to his demise.

13
PepesCovfefe 13 points ago +13 / -0

The burden of evidence is on the person making the claim!!

-11
daty_dato -11 points ago +2 / -13

You claimed we are wrong. Prove we are wrong. Your opinion is meaningless, if you know we are wrong prove it.

10
PepesCovfefe 10 points ago +11 / -1

You make zero sense. I can’t prove to you that something that didn’t happen, didn’t happen. The proof is that there is no documentation for it.

1
fusreedah 1 point ago +1 / -0

Why would there be evidence that he wasnt released for covid if he wasnt released for covid? Nobody makes documents about things that didnt happen. If you cant find evidence on this topic, it points to YOU being wrong.

3
AmericanJawa 3 points ago +3 / -0

He was out of jail because of Covid.

One might argue that had he not been out of jail, he'd still be alive today.

if there were any wonder why Minneapolis Police has the knee-on-neck as standard operating procedure, look no further than what happens when someone with intent to harm is able to resist arrest. It becomes a dangerous situation for all involved.

Dude. That motherfucker committed at least seven criminal acts in that video that you seem to think exonerates him. DUI, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, evading arrest, stealing an officers weapon, firing that weapon at police. Do you really think that this violent criminal should have just been let go to be picked up at his mamas house in the morning?! Give me a fucking break!! He was not his way to church, he wasn’t a good boy. This motherfucker deserves what he got!! He assaulted those cops when they wouldn’t let him go. Then he stole one of their weapons and pointed it right at their face and fired. They fired back.

Brandon Tatum has an excellent video and legal explanation of why in this instance it is considered lethal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSV_vW76yBc

tl:dr, The taser can incapacitate the police officer rendering him defenseless. Which in turn allows the perpetrator to seize the officers firearm.

1
TDSisReal 1 point ago +1 / -0

I’m guessing you don’t know many cops or what escalation of force is. They talked to him very nicely for well over five minutes. They attempted to peacefully arrest him, then he escalated it by resisting arrest. Then by fighting with them, then by physically assaulting them, then by finally firing a weapon at the officers face. If you don’t think firing a weapon even a non-lethal one like a taser at a cops face isn’t a call for deadly force than I don’t know what the fuck to tell you. I guess it’s pretty easy for you to hold that position when that tazer isn’t being fired at your face.

1
just-a-pleb 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's absolutely a lethal weapon, it's just less lethal than a gun.

Some people shrug tasers off while others drop dead, they are not reliable.

1
just-a-pleb 1 point ago +1 / -0

Also have you ever seen a ranged taser probe? It's a fucking razor sharp harpoon.

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
4
fear_mongrels 4 points ago +4 / -0

What if the cops just let him go, a few minutes later he comes across your mom and uses the Taser to subdue her, or carjacks her, or worse?

Would you still feel the same way about the cops just letting a dangerous person go?

Firing a taser at someone is putting their life in danger.

3
Spirit_of_Resistance 3 points ago +3 / -0

Or, we can continue doing it as we have been and be less of a bleeding heart.

3
arebee 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oh my god. are you doubling down on the tranquilising thing? This is brilliant. Let's put you in a room with a hardened criminal, you can shoot him with tranquiliser then defend yourself until he's out. Sound like a good idea? Oh he might have a gun too...maybe not though. But maybe he will! Maybe just a knife.

Don't worry though, he'll be a bit groggy as he stabs you in the guts a few times. You can ring an ambulance and be like "Hello operator? Yes, I need an ambulance. Don't rush though as the guy stabbing me was a bit groggy so it isn't hurting me very much. Is it bad if my inside sausages are now out-side sausages? I didn't learn biology in sci-fi movies school"

8
KeyRepair 8 points ago +8 / -0

He would have to select which strength of tranq he's firing from his device. Because you cant just shoot a dose of tranq anything without taking the persons body/weight into consideration. What works for 20 something adult male might stop the heart of someone else.

5
KeyRepair 5 points ago +5 / -0

To even use tranqs he'd need a license. Cant get that when you defund the police!

Well we have tasers for exactly that purpose. If they don't work, options get limited in these LIFE OR DEATH moments.

3
Schift_for_brains 3 points ago +3 / -0

A lot of these guys are already on drugs, the tranqs would lead to many deaths as well.

3

yeah why dont police just do what they do in sci fi movies. They can fly around in spaceships and fight aliens too! that'd be cool.

Here's what I'm thinking: every crook out there on the streets who is seeing all these newsreels, and happens to be black, is thinking "aha! if I make a really big fuss, they'll give up and let me go". So they fight the police. They become a threat and get shot.

This whole brouhaha is making it WORSE for black people, not better.

20
MAGA_MEXICAN_CHILI 20 points ago +20 / -0

Dont forget this is on top of inner city blacks having a horrible view of cops in the first place. They are taught this behavior, hell half of these so called 'black deaths by cops' are caused by Blacks who get agressive and think they can run from the law.

This is why often Black cop on Blacks is higher fatality rate vs White Cop on Black.

Another issue here is that Cop has just as much of a right to go home and see his family vs that man. IF they just ignored him another family would have died and of course that would only be a 40 second clip on the local news.

"Family of 4 killed by a Drunk Driver in a hit and Run, more at 11" - local ABC affiliate program.

Aspiring Rapper, always smiling, about to start attending community college, never hurt anyone, etc., etc. There are some great role models out there for young black men ( or men of any color) , unfortunately they are not being exposed to them with mainstream media. The media will push criminals as heroes, while decent black people that want to see positive change are muted. Truth is, that’s the way it is regardless of skin color. I live in the Deep South, and I can honestly say that there really is no racial tension in my neck of the woods. You will always have people of every race that hate people that are different, doesn’t matter where you are. I meet a lot of people in my line of work, and I have noticed a lot of changes in the attitudes of young black people in my area. These kids are breaking cycles, planning for success, and achieving it. Obama talked a lot of shit, and many were happy to see someone of their race hold the office. That didn’t last long. I am a firm believer that those that get up and go to work every day have no time to bitch about things that don’t matter. Trump put everyone that wanted to work, back to work, and on the road to success. Most folks around here of every race haven’t forgotten the misery that was the Obama presidency. We really need to purge our education system from K thru college. No one is born a communist, it is a learned behavior. If you want to know why it is so hard to reach some young people, you really don’t need to look any further than their schools.

What a fucking shame. To me he decied to leave his wife insteaed of being charged again with beating her ass for not having dinner ready. He went to sleep it off in a local parking lot. He's drunk, he fucked up, he's dead now. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. 100% justified. He should have never decided to fight the police, especially with the cuffs on one arm. That's a bad day for an officer. This smells more like suicide by cop to me.
