I think it is a bit much as well. Police in general need to be kept on a sort of leash in a so called free society. I do not condone the absurd defunding idea, but there is a big place between that and a supplicating police state. For example, no knock raids should go, or at the very least be very very rare.
Policing as a concept outside of police officers is what is being discussed here. The idea that you need law and order or you have nothing but anarchy and chaos.
