So, our company is celebrating Juneteenth. I'm a Texan, and it's been a holiday here, of sorts, for a long time. As a conservative, I think it's important to create a positive message, so I'm setting an "out of office" reply that will encourage people to reflect on the right sources. I have a list of a few people, but I'd welcome additional recommendations (I didn't add Colion Noir who, although I love his stuff, is too gun-related to let his message sink into the sensibilities of my California-based company). Anyway, please let me know which names to add, I'd like to put a few more living people on the list -- I particularly want people who speak to the long-term structural economic injustices that create unnecessary dependencies on government handouts. "(Company) will be taking Friday, June 19th, off as a tribute to "Juneteenth", a day which celebrates when Texas slaves were emancipated. Our CEO has asked us to use this day to reflect and educate ourselves on injustices which have existed in the past. I would encourage you to read the wise words of famous modern black Americans such US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, economist Thomas Sowell, commentators Candace Owens and the very young CJ Pearson. These people espouse the values that are critical for diversity to succeed, specifically:
- The pursuit of educational and professional excellence as a means of advancement within the society;
- Policies that promote safety and security in the community beyond the typical casting of a criminal as a "victim" of societal racism;
- Not using the lens of race and the country's history of discrimination as justifications for not excelling to the best of your abilities;
- Local economic development through free enterprise rather than looking to the federal government for assistance;
- Empowerment of the individual via self-improvement (virtue), conscience, and supernatural grace.
The message is that diversity is beneficial. Indeed, our language, our music, our technology, etc are all because of the non-homogenous culture we live in. I believe it's one key factor that has propelled this country to greatness (that, and detesting the British government).
What I do NOT EVER believe in is that the color of our skin, eyes, hair, nose shape, etc. determines "diversity." That notion, in itself, is about as racist as you can get. "Visual diversity" is the absolute foundation for an Orwellian cultural dystopia.
ok, fair arguments. I'm trying to keep a positive mindset. It's easy to get lost in the darkness of where things are now. I play the fiddle, and I can see the positive influences of Scottish and Irish roots, as well as the changes over time from gospel roots, influenced by slaves - my arguments about our country's greatness from diversity stems from cultural influences, not racial influences. I certainly agree that the whole diversity undercurrent is "we need less white males," which is really peak racism. But my counterarguments won't succeed if I start from the (vacuous) foundation the left likes to use, which is that diversity begins with color/gender. So, no, I'm not painting it all as "beneficial," because the diversity the left wants to see will end up with them watching in horror as their "diverse friends" smash their grandchildren's heads on the sidewalk. I'm a veteran. Just because I try to find the decency in human beings, like a good Christian, doesn't mean that I suffer from the idealism of the left that all people are good (so long as they don't have disagreeing opinions, which they call "hate speech"). I'd daresay that you and I share identical outlooks on the current situation, but when I eventually stand before God, I will make damn sure that I tried to do good before I dared inflict harm. But these days truly test my patience, and I'm sure it's testing yours.
Can y'all do me a favor and not turn this into a name calling session, just this once? There's enough insanity in the world as it is right now. I'm just looking for suggested names. Jesse Lee Peterson and Mia Love are two others I can think of. Would love to see more. The list should be pretty long, actually.
