In a 7-2 opinion on Monday, the Supreme Court upheld a 2018 “right-of-way” permit by the Forest Service that would allow the Atlantic coast pipeline operators to place a 0.1-mile segment underneath the Appalachian Trail in the George Washington National Forest.

I love the environment because we've got the best environment.

Overall, I don't like messing with the public natural spaces we have (whether it's your local park or a National Forest,) but this pipeline will cross the trail in a very small section. I'm surprised the SCOTUS came out at 7-2, and didn't 'get political' and come out 5-4.

What does concern me though, is that everyone is focusing on the Appalachian TRAIL, but not thinking about the rest of the pipeline. It's a 600-mile pipeline.

It's beautiful country out here, but I wouldn't put it past some group to sabotage the project. And I don't mean to sue Dominion or Duke Energy on their permits; I mean to literally sabotage the pipeline!

They already started construction; a lot of the pipeline is built. And yes, when they build it, it is ugly. They tear up the land. But, if they put it back together, they have the chance to make it better than before. Bigger. Better.

I live in south western Va. There is a town about a half hour from me that hosts a party every year called Trail Days in the spring. Its a town that is on average close to where all of the through hikers starting in georgia will be. Its a good place to stop and rest, sociialize, get supplies etc. So needless to say (love this saying haha) there are a ton of hikers who have been on trail for weeks by this point.

Remember that time you took your gf camping and on the third day yall tried to get busy but it wasnt the best because of obvious reasons (literal sandy vaginas and smelly buttcracks...bad breath...sweat etc.)? Well Im sure these folks find a creek here and there and wash up, but your not getting proper clean until you find a shower or bath. So all thats kinda whatever, but then add the fact that just like the rest of human civiliazation, there are women (and men i presume) who get by on the trail by giving out favors and sex to the guys who havent seen a another human in a week. Wouldnt be my first career choice.

And trust me. My first live in gf in college was a hippie to the max. You dont want trail pussy hahaha. Well, maybe i guess if you and your woman are hiking thats find. No trail strange.

Liberal hippie type girls that'll latch on to you, especially when you are well prepared and have plenty of money like I did. Usually groups of people start in the same time frame, there are good times to start from South and North. What happens is people become "trail friends" and tend to accordion in groups along the length of the trail if you hike it all at once.

Instead of hiking people like to get caught up in the social aspect, and spend time in their groups. Well, girls are still unprepared and needy, hiking the trail with $10 in their pocket and just hoping for free shit.

Can't say I didn't bring a few back to a hotel in town, stocked them up, let them crash with me in exchange they act like the sluts they are. They'd prefer to be your "trail boyfriend" sometimes, and it was more common than you think. I wanted none of that and just hiked and enjoyed the scenery. It's not a solitary experience. Do the CDT for that.

I have it on my bucket list, any tips for sanity? how are the mosquitos? are leftists worse than mosquitos? That's a pretty high bar to be honest.

1
FullAutoFlintlock 1 point ago +1 / -0

In the 1O0 mile wilderness the.black flies and mosquitoes are hell. I started end of july in Maine and hiked south. if you are fit, I'd reccomend doing that. Way less people, less bugs. you hit Shenandoah in the fall it's real nice. You start with all.the mountains so bt the mod Atlantic 30 mile days are easy, and you just cruise.

Bug nets, and you get used to mosquitoes there not terrible. her used to tick checks and just keep moving.

The crossing of the App Trail for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project will be a HDD (horizontal directional drill) hundreds of feet below. Hikers will likely never notice actual disturbance to the trail itself.

8
Muttsbitetoo 8 points ago +8 / -0

Can confirm, am in HDD business.

2
SwanS0ng 2 points ago +2 / -0

came here to say this, it's about 900 feet below the actual trail anyone walks on

7
GeneralBoobs 7 points ago +7 / -0

I went looking but I can't find the stories. In Dunnellon, Florida, they were building a pipeline. A group of about 5 fat activist LARPers went there and sabotaged some of the equipment and area. They got caught, got charged, went to jail. Pipeline finished. Now, it's already leaking because of cheap building material/labor practices. So the cycle continues.

1
Sporadica 1 point ago +1 / -0

Is it a buried pipeline or is it above ground?

Gotta love main stream conservatism. It's just socialism and globalism going the speed limit.

Don't burn down the country all at once guys! Be "conservative" and just burn it down a piece at a time.

18
Flak 18 points ago +19 / -1

Yep fuck the SC once again

3
Yucky 3 points ago +3 / -0

What's wrong with this ruling? This is something we generally support here.

14
Flak 14 points ago +16 / -2

Because honestly who the fuck cares about a random pipeline or whatever when fundamentalist leftist religion is being forced down our throats and the second amendment violations by various states continue unabated?

This is how the left wins. The right considers a return to status quo to be a victory, so "you win some you lose some" is really just a very slow slide to destruction because the cart NEVER backs up the hill, it is always sliding left.

15
ProphetOfKek 15 points ago +15 / -0

And with 2A infringements.

4
PhilipeNegro 4 points ago +4 / -0

By them, or can we refine them into a solvent-resistant plastic casing to prevent leakage?

60
Bongos 60 points ago +60 / -0

Appalachian Trail is over 2K miles long, and like 10 ft wide if that. I doubt seriously anyone is going to notice. Sounds just like bureaucrat EPA lawyers suing each other for the sake of it and billing the taxpayer.

15
2Fangz 15 points ago +15 / -0

Doesn't the article confirm that the pipeline would only run with the trail for a fraction of a mile in one forest?

11
Bongos 11 points ago +11 / -0

I didn't read. I love the enviroment and national forests, but I know any project like is always sounds far worse than what it is. There was some talk of maybe mining near the Grand Canyon a few yrs ago and it sounded horrible. But when I visited the GC, it ends up there is about a 20 mile buffer on either side that you could literally hide a dozen football fields and no one would notice.

7
Yucky 7 points ago +7 / -0

This!!! They use this type of language all the time to scare people. It's "NEAR" something. Well what the hell does "near" even mean? It could mean anything.

0.1-mile segment underneath the Appalachian Trail

The AT is ~2200 miles long.

5

BUT MUH ECOSYSTEMMMMREEEEEE!!! Meanwhile, squirrels can be seen moving to a new oak tree a little ways down the trail from all the REEEE'ing.

Natural gas is one of the best energy sources for the environment, other than nuclear. Amazing that the environmental nuts are trying to oppose this.

4

Turn that trail into a WIND FARM!!!

5
Yucky 5 points ago +5 / -0

Horrible ideas. Kills birds, is a major eyesore, and is not an efficient source of energy.

1
Siteless_Vagrant 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, I'm still kinda shocked at how wildly they're being used in the plains. Had to travel to Kansas last year, and my god, there is hardly any room left for the damn cows.

There are monied interests in making sure the US is not energy independent.

1
Sporadica 1 point ago +1 / -0

Wind is better if it's in the high reaching wind streams that constantly run like the North Sea projects and hydro is good if it's run of the river so it doesn't cause flooding like an impoundmant dam.

I walk almost daily for a mile or so directly on top of one of the world's most important refined-oil products piplines.

The national park and trail are only there because of the pipeline. I see hawks, deer, and beaver all the time, and there was even a huge alligator once, at almost 34 degrees north! A special and natural spot now surrounded by suburban hustle and bustle. I suspect a natural gas line crossing the AT will be a huge nothing burger for future hikers.

It was founded in the 1920s, it goes from Maine to Georgia, but other trails have connected to it, all the way down into the Florida Everglades, and yeah, up into Leaf Land, but all much later.
