A big chunk of that is mountains. Not sure offhand how much of the border is passable, but I bet that would have been fully walled if Paul Ryan hadn't spent two years working hard to throw away control of the House.

The initial estimate was around 750 miles of passable border would need a wall. That's where the original $15 billion figure came from.

So, nearly 1/3 complete in 3/8 years. Gonna be close.

There's about 700 miles between El Paso and San Diego, some of it is mountainous. You can see here that a good chunk of that is covered with new construction, maybe 100-200 miles where there is just vehicle barrier though.

After El Paso you have the Rio Grande which is not very wide is some parts. If you zoom in around here you can literally see dozens of trails.

Regardless they more or less claim that wall for the 450 mile stretch between El Paso and Del Rio is unnecessary. Then there's about 350 miles between Del Rio and the Gulf that should be fortified, about ~115 of that is funded and under construction.

From what I can tell border control basically is trying to shut down all cross border vehicle traffic, if Trump wins another term I'm sure that their goal will be to shut down all cross border pedestrian traffic and boat traffic in the populated areas.

Goddamn republicans are not conservatives. Theyre globalists who want us to be grateful for cheap labor and chinese products. I support the free American market, not this international economic musical chairs game. Jobs for americans, not “future americans.” Trump quoted 500 miles by end of 2020 and we’d better get it

Trump has funded about 760 miles now in total. The only question is how fast the construction crews can actually build it.

That being said, if he gets 4 more years, we will get the entire border secured no problem.

Paul Ryan said you can't build walls over mountains....great wall of Chyna says otherwise

I can't wait for the eminent domain land seizure of activists that thought they could stop the wall

Just build the wall around them, have a gate the owners can open to drive or walk through, let those land owners have their open border in their back yard.

But in a large part of it there are natural barriers. Having a few hundreds miles in the right spots makes a yuge difference

Never underestimate the will of the desperate and smugglers trying to find new ways. Natural barriers can and will be crossed.

But the wall is mostly a symbol.

To truly stop illegal immigration you need to cut all the welfare that they get, and deport.

Very few would bring their whole life to America if they knew they could be kicked out anytime.

they absolutely will. if the easy spots to cross are sealed up, they will create an entire fucking infrastructure on the mexican side, to support the caravans of people out into the desert. there will be shanty towns with goods/supply stores set up at checkpoints along the way. and maybe even eventually legit towns. natural barriers don't mean shit to people who just walked up to and over 2k miles to get here.

We need an extremely prohibitive tax on remittances which can then be refunded to citizens who file taxes.

On the other hand, there are plenty of sections of the rio grande you can easily wade across. I've seen it myself.

The border wall will only cover existing walls and some other areas. It won't be a wall from the Pacific to the Rio Grande. It doesn't matter anyway since California is a sanctuary state and police are barred from reporting illegal immigrants. A lot of important cities are sanctuaries too such as New Orleans, which is a major transportation hub for both sea, land, and air.

As long as the Dems continue to create national security risks, our nation is vulnerable.

Trump also explained exactly what the border wall will be like and stated that many parts of the border will use a natural barrier like the desert. No idea where the 1,100+ mile long border wall came from.

The bad news: We need another 4 years to finish the wall.

The good news: If we get another 4 years, the wall will actually be finished.
