Probably because "cholo". It's their "nigga".

Ha! I got called Chola by an American born Mexican heritage friend in front of her mom; her Mom- being not legal since like the 1960s and never did amnesty either- almost slapped her into next decade with her chancla before she realized it was an inclusive compliment towards a white girl and not a hidden insult.

I've never seen so many "racist insulting names" used than with latino group public convos online and off- the closer the ties the worse the language is. And all done with teasing affection or mild razzing.

Urban black convos are drastically less usage, but far higher than Asians, and whites only ever use them with diverse in groups they have been accepted into.

So when you look at the spread it is more likely AI mis-identifying in group language than actual racist speech.

Isn't cholo just gangster?

Hood more like. A specific kind and style generally.

But as with most labels or slang it has drifted in meaning and usage to be more a cultural attitude or dress or interests thing.

I copped a mouthy fearless attitude over something, and she said "you are so crazy, chola".
