I once got a ticket for going a hundred in a sixty-five. When the cop cut me loose he told me to slow it down, and I was like I did, I was doing a hundred and forty before I saw you! I didn't get arrested because I had the good sense not to say that part out loud. Once you've been detained you're not in charge anymore. The one factor you can control that makes all the difference is your own attitude. Give 'em your license, politely say "yes, sir/ma'am" and "no, sir/ma'am", and otherwise keep your fucking mouth shut. If you haven't committed a serious crime you'll soon be on your way. If you have, well, you knew the rules of the game when you started playing. If you don't want to make things even worse for yourself then take your lumps like a man and stop crying about how it was everyone else's fault.
100% accurate. In most states, 20 mph over, after dark, is a ticket to jail. Officer discretion applies but jail is a likely option. The "sirs" and Ma'ams" go a long ways to influence that discretion.
Been with and around officers for many, many years. No one ever gets unarrested, no matter how polite.
