That is the debated point. McCain was not born on US soil either.

The general agreement is that you just have to be born a US citizen, regardless of location. You can be president so long as you were a citizen since the day you were born.

That's how I always defined "natural born citizen." Being born anywhere as long as you were an American citizen at birth.

Ted Cruz wasn't born on US soil, but he was given the green light to run.

Frankly, I think giving US citizenship at birth is stupid, unless the child is born in America, to two American parents who have been living here for 10 or so continuous years.

As I understand it, the original meaning of "Natural Born Citizen" as opposed to "Citizen" is one must be born on U.S. soil with BOTH parents being U.S. citizens at time of birth. Neither Ted Cruz nor Marco Rubio were technically eligible to run for president the same as Obama. All three were U.S. citizens, but none of them were Natural Born Citizens. Hope that helps.
