Your overall point is taken, but the world is so very different today than in the 18th century. If you had sufficient acreage there was little you needed from the wider world. Now the leftists will get your bank accounts close, take away your livelihood, and make you a pariah nationally. In the 18th century you could head west a hundred miles, use a different name, and totally rebuild your life.
