Like I said we're quiet and just want to live our lives. I'm not going to become some crying type Leftist going out and protesting. That's just not who I am.

Then you can't expect anything will ever go your way. This is going to take a fight and at minimum that means participation in every political event that even remotely affects you. If you don't want to participate then you may as well move to a quieter country not on the brink of societal upheaval. Sounds harsh but it's just the truth unfortunately.
