Yes I agree you're completely right but that doesn't explain why we have a statue of Christopher Columbus.

Because he set the stage for the European conquest and ensuing spread of civilization to the American continent.

Nah it was the Spanish Royalty that did that by paying for it. No Spanish investment, no Columbus, no discovery of America.

If we're putting the statue up to commemorate those responsible for America's official discovery, let's make it a statue of the Spanish Royalty not the middle man

That's bullshit. He led the expedition and took the personal risk, therefore he gets the credit. Casesar conqured Germania by leading the Roman army. Genghis Khan conquered Baghdad leading the Mongol horde. Admiral Nelson defeated the French at the battle of Trafalgar leading the Royal Navy. US Grant that organized the multi theater attack on the Confederacy to win the Civil War. It is the man in the arena who takes great personal risks to accomplish monumental endeavors that gets the credit. We build statues to these men because they were the giants of their time. It is only fitting that envious and rotten people steeped in perpetual failure are the ones that tear down the statues. The only thing they will ever accomplish is pissing on the grave of someone far better than them in every way.

Well you may not like it but that's reality.

Elon Musk doesn't assume any of the physical risk of building rockets. He just pays for it, but he gets the credit when his rockets succeed.

I don't know the name of the poor bastard that's responsible for handling the volatile rocket chemicals...you know...the guy that shoulders the risk of being blown TFU. I just know Elon Musk name: he gets the credit.

And read a history book. Nobody in America gave a shit about Columbus until the Kights of Columbus came along.
