Surprised more people here aren't for privatization of police? Thought we had more libertarians/small government minded people here, that's what the Constitution was all about, smalllllllll government. I'm not for police being abolished due to communist whine, but in a way this could be useful in terms of reducing the size of the state.
Police are local/municipal, not federal. We, and the Constitution, are able a small FEDERAL government, with the majority of control ceded to the States and local towns/cities.
Right, sounds good. Imagine being able to select your police force? For your HOA/neighborhood or just you as an individual? You can look up their stats, see how thoroughly they're trained in deescalation, firearms qualification (lots of police forces only qualify ONCE a year), first aid, various psychological exams, etc.
I doubt there would be any real accountability. This will just be a swap-out of unaccountable public police chiefs and officers for even-more-unaccountable for-profit private police companies , still paid for by tax payers, and under the control of the same Democrat politicians.
Private police forces are a viciously stupid and corrupt idea. Government has one job, and the use of force is it. External force is military, internal force is law and order. Ancillary but still vital to the use of force are all the bullshit like a state department and embassies, a bureau to set standards in weights and measures to distinguish crooks from fair dealers, etc, etc.
Don't "reduce" government by selling the power to use force to the lowest bidder. Reduce government by getting rid of all the other bullshit government should not be doing. I never want to see Amazon or Microsoft logo police knocking on my door.

Actual ACCOUNTABILITY.

Just RoboCop, without the cool tech.
So same thing as we have now? Not to mention the for profit prison industrial complex.
