Wtf? We actually did inherit slavery from the British Empire. Jefferson's first draft of the Declaration laid the blame for slavery squarely on George III'd head. Slavery was the modus operandi of the entirety of Spanish colonization of central and south america; move in, subjugate and enslave the local populace.
