Man ive been waiting for this for 10 years. My reasons not being about racism, but rather, the police in America can be, in the nicest way of saying it, sub-par.
Police officers are not military, they’re not intelligence officers, and their not federal officers. They are the second lowest branch of law enforcement and some act in America like they’re Gods chosen people.
This is no disrespect to good, decent men that are police officers, I promise. More so this is an acknowledgment that psychopaths and thugs seem to flock to the police force in droves. This is because of how we have viewed our police force through society in the past 100 years.
Police officers must be held accountable for themselves first and foremost. We view police officers as saint figures, that are always justified in their actions. Fuck that. Their human just like you and me. If a police officer commits some type of criminal act, he must be held accountable. If the police officers abuses his power, he must be held accountable. They are hired to PROTECT us, not to catch you on the smallest little slip up just so they can make their quota for their shift.
If I was a racist psychopath in the 1950’s, you bet I’d be a police officer. Why wouldn’t I do that? I could get away with ANYTHING. It may not be as easy to get away with the truly awful things that happened in 1950s anymore, but still, up until body cams started being a huge thing, police officers were immune from accountability outside the walls of their precinct. Our society is in no way as racist as it was in the 1950s, but yeah, you still got people that hate other types of people because of skin color. That’s always gonna exist. Always. And the police force is still a safe haven for people like that.
Not all police officers are psychopaths/thugs, I’ve met some very pleasant, good, decent police officers. That’s not what this post is about. This is about how their needs to be a change in the quality of character and the intentions of the pol e force.
The cops can’t steal half of the money you have in cash cuz they found a gram of weed in a plastic bag (happened to me along with other bullshit stories). Arrest me for breaking the law, fine. Cite me, fine. That is why western society works. Law and order. I have the freedom to smoke weed, but since it is illlegal, I will face my consequences if caught. I’m good with that.
Steal my cash because of some loop-hole in the law that says its “accessories” found with the small, 1gram, nug of weed. That’s called being a thug. White, Tennessee, state thugs.
This is the bullshit that is in our police systems. It’s there, just as much as it’s not there.
I’m not sure if this police reform bill will do anything good, or have any impact, but the fact is, the police force needs to find a way to stop hiring thugs and psychopaths. The police force needs to systemically change their recruiting process, their image, and their intentions of their work. They are here for us, paid by us. They are not hall monitors, looking for ways to catch us doing something wrong. They serve our interests. Our liberties.
So fuck yeah, police reform. Crongress better not fill it with pork and peddle it as impactful. They probably wil, but I’m glad Trump is up there signing an executive order.
