Not disagreeing with you, but there are actually zero senators doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Senators are supposed to be the federal advocates of the state governments, there to make sure that the house of representatives doesn't try to take power that is reserved for the states.

The 17th amendment changed all that. Frankly, this entire American Experiment died with its passage and we are simply riding out the death throes.
