I talked to a recruiter once, and wow he made me feel very special for not being retarded. Supposedly if you are smart and willing to go to the military it is pretty smooth after boot camp.
It’s always been like that. God blessed me with a really good brain. I like to think I’ve got a close to equal mix of intelligence and common sense wisdom. Scored high on the asvabs and GT score of 119. (Any score over 100 and they try to push Army Intelligence)
Every ‘superior’ officer and non com saw my knowledge as a threat. Kept me from promotion board and PLDC till it was too late.
Maybe I’m not as smart as I thought. Didn’t realize I was being screwed til years later.
Truth. At various points, I had a stuttering fool and a Fat Albert with a lisp. One was a moron and one hadn't completed a PT test in years. Know why they were in charge? They were "yes" men. Ever have a yes man in charge of you and your group? We were volunteered for EVERY garbage duty and detail you could think of. Zero leadership.
Hmm, well I hope we all know to take what a recruiter says with a grain of salt. I was under age and didnt turn 18 until spring at college. My parents wouldn't sign so I couldn't take it any further.

You can be both intelligent and naive. I take it you were young and probably trusted your superiors to have your best interest in mind.
