Here's how it worked at my old company before I got fired: apropos of nothing, company decides we need to "have an open dialogue" about race. Dialogue ensues. Anyone white who says anything other than "I am privileged and sorry for it" is fired within a year. Not all once, of course. But a few every couple of weeks. They force you into a conversation that simple politeness (and basic employment law) would prevent you from getting into, and use it as a pretext to get rid of you. Speak up and lose your job (but keep your self respect), or shut up and keep your job (but lose your self respect...and probably get fired later regardless).
