I read that it was first started in 1980 as a state holiday in Texas and became celebrated in other states over the years. This is the first time I’m hearing of it in the MSM and it was only due to wanting to move the rally in Tulsa. Did anyone else find this interesting?

Yeah all the shitlibs trying to say it was a rayciss dog whistle when most truml supporters didnt even know what the fuck or when the fuck it was. Muchless a rally on the anniversary of the abolition of slavery sounds awesome to us and not racist jfc

I mean - it commemorates a good thing. The freeing of 100k people when the cavalry rolled in. I think its a worthy thing to celebrate. The Republican party started as an abolition party. The Democrats were the slave owning party. They still seem to be.

Seems the masters are having a hard time with their slaves right now. They want to run the plantation instead of go free

Sure, but how the MSM has suddenly began shrieking about it, painting it as though it's some ubiquitously known date and holiday. I'm a historian, and even I was like "wtf why is the date offensive?" and had to look it up to even know what it was tied to. In any case, I'm sure we can tie some significance to every single date and use the same narrative to cry "offensive," & "racist!"

I am in Texas and first learned about it in 1978 when we went to a celebration. June 19th 1865 (Juneteenth) is the date news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas via the port of Galveston. It had been celebrated for decades prior to 1978 primarily in the black community, but gradually spread to the general culture and then nationwide.

I know about Juneteenth because of second-hand Oprah exposure in the 1990's.

I'm fine with changing the date of the rally. It shows he's not tone deaf and Saturday is a better day for it anyway.

I've lived in Texas for almost a decade and I've never even heard of it until recently.

It spread nation wide...ok.

Its been a black thing for a long time. But most of corporate America has rolled it out as a flag of acceptance of the black cultural overlords.

It's been a "Texas-Thing", as someone whose lived here all my life....It's always seemed a pretty tame celebration of when the news of emancipation finally reached Texas

I’ve heard of it, but I’m also a History nerd.

My birthday is June 19th, and when I moved to Texas for college in 1991, that's the 1st I ever heard of it.

I’d heard it before because I like to “nerd out” on history. I think it was kinda obscure, like jumping the broom at weddings as a nod to the slave days is known in the black community but not necessarily known to other people. I don’t think I ever heard MSM pay attention to it before.

I actually have heard of it once before, but forgot about it until this thing came up. It sounded vaguely familiar but I couldn't remember why until I was reminded.

Heard about it in Savannah Georgia when I moved here four years ago. Just shrugged it off as another kwanza.

About as important as Kwanza

Heard of it after the Rodney King riots, local news dinosaurs gave off the vibe it being some multi-day observance and "it's a black thing, you wouldn't understand"

First I’ve heard of it. Might be because our local cuck news is wall to wall “pride” stuff in June usually. At least it’s been a nice break from that. Instead they dig up a new holiday.

I'd never heard of it until the Trump tweet.

I remember they were talking about it last year or something. That was the first I’d ever heard of it. Had a bunch of people on my timeline pretending like they knew it was a thing. Smh.

I saw in real time as it was added to my Google calendar. I can't delete it without turning off all holidays. Only official federal holidays should be on my calendar, not hate.

It's now showing up on my Google calendar as a holiday. What the heck.

Hell, I first heard of it this WEEK.

I heard about it before, but not before I was an adult. From what I understand, it's a holiday that's celebrated more in the black community, particularly in certain regions.

I do think that the MSM was using it an excuse to call President Trump racist, but I don't have anything against the holiday itself. The abolition of the slavery was one of the most important events in American history, regardless of what your race or ancestry is. I wouldn't mind seeing Juneteenth become more mainstream.

I swear this is like discovering Festivus

Juneteenth celebrations have been around for many years. In Waco when I was young it was: "Let's stay away from Cameron Park today, it's Juneteenth." There has been a parade for the last ten years.

1
Polks_Corps 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yep.....never heard of it until Trump wanted to have a rally.

2scoops2genders2term 1 point ago +1 / -0

Google added it to my calendar for the first time in the 16 years I've had that account.

KaiserBilltheWolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

I knew about juneteenth since I was a kid in the 70's growing up in Texas. There would always be at least one shooting and my dad's black employees would call the house begging him to bail them out for fighting, public intoxication, or dwi. EVERY YEAR!

Former_Pastor 1 point ago +1 / -0

No not really, I grew up in Louisiana and have known n about it forever. It might be more regional. My buddy from New Jersey wasn't familiar with it but quite a few Southern friends were.

Ladybug87 1 point ago +1 / -0

First heard of it in the last week.
