Flight of the locusts. Commie scum poured out of California and fucked up staunchly red state Colorado.

Same thing is happening with Florida. Fucking Marxists leaving the New England states so they can ravage the south.

34% total? Or like 34% more of what it had been?

Yep. And when landlords raise rent the dems will say it is greedy landlords and never mention that ther have tio raise it to pay the taxes. 🙄🤮

Fabius 2 points ago +2 / -0

All taxes fall to the consumer of a product.

Tax a company that you purchase from? You're taxing yourself.

Tax a landlord you rent from? Taxing yourself.

What are those taxes being used for? Prison schools, healthcare for illegals, and pension bribes.

To be fair, as a Nashvillian, I should provide context for people who aren’t OP and fall victim to confirmation bias.

We have HISTORICALLY low property tax as-is. Look it up, one of the lowest in the nation by far. There was already a movement to raise it, but the tornado and now COVID have affected our budget significantly. This doesn’t really come as a surprise to most conservatives or liberals who live here.

After this rise, it is STILL one of the lowest.

Edit: One more thing - a chunk of this new revenue is INCREASING our Metro Nashville police department budget, which is good news given what’s happening elsewhere.

Considering property tax is just theft, that's like saying yeah someone broke in but they left me my favorite lamp.

Yeah. OP didn't state that well in the title. It's a 34% increase. A 34% property tax would mean paying $100,000 annually on your $300,000 home. I don't think ANYONE could live with that.

Bad timing though.

Also what do you think about the 3.5 million that was given toward the arts as part of this whole thing?

3
Mexicola1976 3 points ago +3 / -0

The historically low property taxes are/were a pull factor, no? And then where does it end when the pull factor doesn't result in people moving in, but moving out? You pay increased taxes- will your property value or services provided increase at that rate?

We've had low taxes and so this is an equalizer of sorts, seems like a terrible argument. What necessitated the increase? A dramatic one at that-

another $4.9 million to increase the minimum wage for district employees

Losers without marketable skills vote to increase their own pay. How predictable.

the Council made the decision to increase funding for Metro police by $2.6 million despite calls to defund the department by community members and Council Members who tried to make amendments to the amount

There's a silver lining in there at least.

Estimated $775/yr increase on a house valued at $300k

That's insane. Many living on a fixed income can't suddenly afford a $775/yr increase in their cost of living.

To be fair, the Democrat mayor is a native Nashvillian and the brother of a long-time state senator. Nashville has always been a dem city...I think they haven't had a Republican mayor since the 1800s or something. It's the least Southern city in the whole South. Feels more like the midwest, tbh. At any rate it's a shithole now.

Crlsniper 6 points ago +6 / -0

You step outside of Nashville proper it’s all red. We’ve got enough to hold the surrounding counties, but just can’t take the city.

It's a lesson against open borders, is the really funny thing about it all. The EU's Schengen borders agreement is based on the freedom of movement we have between states here in the U.S.

Such a thing only works with a homogenous population. Anything else is functionally warfare against the population being immigrated on. And it always devolves into actual warfare.

Immigration is, in and of itself, fundamentally wrong.

Well. Was thinking about buying property in Tennessee in the near future.

Guess that's off the table.

You're probably ok if you avoid the big cities. YMMV

I honestly didn't read the article which I probably should have. I'll take a look at it later. I am not planning to move to a state with a high property tax. I'm not about that life.

Awful...“It still is critical to me that we look at our teachers, who are educating the millionaires of tomorrow. We’ve got CEOs running companies who are making millions tons of zeros on their checks. They all went to school and were taught by teachers. It’s time to put our money where our mouth is,” said District 7 Council Member Emily Benedict...I assure you, they mostly taught themselves...99% of the students aran’t millionaires so either they did it themselves, or teaching 1% correctly. Those CEO’s are also paying millions in taxes and their payrolls are also tax cash cows. Taxes are a must, but they keep asking for more and not providing any value. Taxes should be earned.

Once the local police are abolished there won't be a property tax.

Oh? Schools too! Well, I guess they can just take whatever they want then.

Gotta have those "schools" that are so great that when you come out of them, you're qualified to make minimum wage.

I read the article. It's an increase of 34%, not an increase to 34%. Literally no where in this country do you pay a third of the value of a house annually as property tax.

And what are you going to do about it? Simply putting everything on one's man shoulders expecting Daddy to take care of everything is no different than the leftist child attitude towards life? Don't we conservatives always lecture about pulling up by the bootstraps or is that just more meaningless platitudes from the so called "right"?

Tired of the constant bitching online and only very few doing anything. Sound familiar? Yeah that includes me. I am working on it.

And even if you did, I doubt you would be on this board and also in Nashville proper. Smart Tennesseans stay out of metropolitan Nashville if possible.
