I watched the whole video. Officer Rolfe was incredibly professional and gave this guy numerous chances to explain his way out of his situation. He allowed Rayshard to rummage around in his car for his license. A racist cop would have shot him right then and claimed he was going for a gun. Officer Rolfe went for his taser first to subdue the guy. The guy resisted arrest, stole a taser, ran...what else should the cop do?
Fucking liberals today...."well he should have used the legs that God gave him to chase down and catch the guy without shooting him" I fucking hate liberals. A. liberals hate God and have no business invoking His name. B. its not that fucking simple to chase a guy down. he had the taser, to my knowledge. he was now an armed threat to the community.
I think that's the problem. Shouldn't outlaw something just because one person can't use it correctly. Why are fireworks outlawed in CA? Because one person had to fuck it up, be irresponsible, and blow their hand off. AND file a lawsuit because they can't take responsibility of their own actions. And this goes much beyond fireworks. Why should one person have to fuck it up for everyone else?
I was discussing the other day with someone, so many of our problems stem from people lacking self responsibility. Its sad, but I am glad to see that others see the same thing. I guess it should be expected here on TD though.
false. watch the video. Officer Rolfe gave him all kinds of chances to explain his story. he couldn't do it. and i will say, the only way i see the officer could have done better, was cut the interrogation short. clearly the guy was off his rocker. the officer should have told him to call someone to come get him, or just went ahead and arrested him. but that still didn't give rayshard the excuse to resist arrest and attack the cops.
Blame MADD they made even slightly under the influence a big deal. They can't let people go for it or they'll face lawsuits. If officer Rolfe left him without arresting him - the Atlanta PD could be sued for damages he caused.
Exactly. Like the Eric Garner situation. Cops have to arrest people for breaking the 100,000 laws politicians write, then people resist and it’s all the cop’s fault - and the politicians jump on the perps side and stab their enforcement in the back. Depending on the skin color of the perp. This whole thing is sick.
Officers are very very rarely giving you a chance to explain your way out of a situation. They knew he was drunk the moment they smelled the alcohol in his car. The first question he asked, and any officer would ask in that situation is "How much have you had to drink tonight?" Pay attention closely. They don't ever ask, "did you have anything to drink" because the obvious answer to even an idiot is to say "no", instead they ask a question that puts the suspect in the frame of mind- "they already know I've been drinking so I'll try and say it was just one drink or two drinks" thinking that just one or two drinks means you can walk away. In reality, it doesn't matter how many drinks you say you've had, you just admitted to drinking. The officer continues asking him questions, not to let him go, they know they're not letting him go the minute they look up his rap sheet and find out he's violating parole. They ask the questions to get the guy comfortable and take his guard down. The drawn out interrogation is a very smart control tactic, get the guy to not be defensive and convince him he's only going to the station for the breathalyzer test. Unfortunately the dude had been to jail before and panicked the second they tried to cuff him.
You should never talk to police. They aren't there to give you a chance to explain things.
They are giving you rope to hang yourself.
Obviously this isn't true of all police, I've seen officers bend over backwards to help idiots that probably should have spent a night in jail, but in general...don't talk to police.
Once the DUI cop showed up, it was all letting him incriminate himself. Cops are not your friends, they get you talking so you can incriminate yourself. There is a good video of a FBI guy explaining that on youtube.
They were beyond respectful and deferential to this guy. They even let him DRIVE his own car from the drive-thru line to the parking space. That in itself would have been seized on by a defense attorney and gotten him off. But no, don't use common sense, take the arrest and fight it in court.
Just said this in another post...

I support Officer Rolfe 100%.
A taser is a lethal weapon according to BLM after all. So liberals can't walk their way outta this one.
oh, they will try....
Yeah they have pulled way more blatant hypocrisy than this. And gotten away with it, for the most part. Watch them...
Bike lock head smasher got away with it
Since when have double standards mattered to the left? Double standards are the only standards they have.

We are a society of lowest common denominator and that bar is set low my friend

The next thing he would have done is jack someone's car to get away. If he gets killed jacking a car, is that murder too?
And rightfully so-dude was over the legal limit. He was passed out.
is that national law?

So what exactly should they have done? Slipped a citation under his wiper, called an ambulance and drove away?

Never talk to the cops even if you are innocent and trying to prove it. Lawyer up
And Rayshard did an absolute outstanding job doing that by changing his bullshit story 50 times.
I came away from the video with the absolute certainty that whatever he drank, it was not a half, one, one and a half or two margaritas or daquris.
He was an armed threat to the community the minute he got behind the wheel drunk. He's now dead so the people around him no longer need to suffer.
And if he crashed the car and killed somebody you wouldn't have heard word one about it. That life doesn't matter.
They were beyond respectful and deferential to this guy. They even let him DRIVE his own car from the drive-thru line to the parking space. That in itself would have been seized on by a defense attorney and gotten him off. But no, don't use common sense, take the arrest and fight it in court.
Cops love to say that carparks are private property and its not their problem if someone damages your properties.
Well put.
