I keep telling this to my wife (who to her credit, doesn't say anything). The police are not going to protect you if they'll be charged for murder doing it. They'll let the guy go, and take a report over your dead family while they collect their paychecks. They'll let drunk drivers slam into your car in an intersection and kill your family. They'll let shop owners be robbed. They'll let women be raped. Why should they go to prison protecting you? They'll show up later, and take the report that you were raped, your children were kidnapped, your husband was robbed and killed.
