I'm not 100% sure on Florida but we went over the NC statutes in class and I was shocked to see that you actually cannot confront someone and then proceed to kill them in self defense unless the confrontation was clearly in self defense, such as someone attacking another person or threatening, physically or verbally, to cause harm. In that case, you're not the aggressor even if you take the first "action". Witnesses and other evidence have to back up you were defending and not being the aggressor to make a good self defense case if its murky enough to result in you being charged.
This is why there is insurance for gunowners in the event of a self defense shooting.

Well this makes more sense now. It is absolutely nuts what that DA did. The whole police force is walking off the job in Atlanta over this.

My opinion: The DA knows that this is not a winnable fight for him, but is to cowardly to say "This was a legitimate act of self defense". So instead, he's filing charges and dumping the whole affair in the laps of a jury and judge who will have to make the right decision and suffer the wrath of BLM, etc. The DA can then say, "Hey, don't look at me, I tried."
My thoughts exactly. The charges are ridiculous and won't stick if there is any shred of justice.

People I know have already concluded these cops are dirty & the shooting was cold blooded murder.
The DA's claims the cops were maliciously kicking Rayshard Brooks while he was dying & purposefully failed to render aid are going completely unquestioned.
