My opinion: The DA knows that this is not a winnable fight for him, but is to cowardly to say "This was a legitimate act of self defense". So instead, he's filing charges and dumping the whole affair in the laps of a jury and judge who will have to make the right decision and suffer the wrath of BLM, etc. The DA can then say, "Hey, don't look at me, I tried."

My thoughts exactly. The charges are ridiculous and won't stick if there is any shred of justice.
It's a way to wash their hands of the incident.
