bitterbut_true 13 points ago +13 / -0

Yeah. Whatever happened to them?...Rowdy...Pedes I see a link!

Remember 'Rowdy Roddy Piper' from yr childhood? Well he later starred in a cult classic film 'They Live'--which describes perfectly what we're experiencing today--Deep State monsters embedded in DC and the country's institutions, secretly networking with each other, controlling and destroying--while disguised as 'normal' everyday moral humans. You only get see who they really are, and read the REAL messaging, when y put on the special sunglasses which Rowdy's character does.

Let's bring back that Rowdy party. They sound like a good time.

Had to look them up.

The Rowdies included many owners of distilleries, bars and brothels, and represented most of what the city was, especially as an outpost along the railroads. They existed in direct opposition to the Moral Party, which called for temperance and chastity.

We all were.

There is a lot of "dumbing down of history" for the expedient process of teaching an idea. Which naturally festers into a false truth.

Here's a decent article for the ignorant: https://newstalk1130.iheart.com/featured/common-sense-central/content/2018-05-01-the-myth-of-the-republican-democrat-switch/ --- even if you're well read on the topic, click the link and watch that ad LBJ ran. IT'S IDENTICAL TO THE STRATEGY TODAY.

Name one general position which the Republican Party has ever changed its stance on.

The Republicans have generally philosophically stayed on the same position.

6
HillaryAteMyBaby 6 points ago +8 / -2

Corporate freedoms vs. Environment.

Generally, Republicans today are all pro-business and enterprise at any cost, no matter what it might do to the environment. Muh Coal, Oil, etc. Regulations bad. Profits good.

We used to be the party of outdoorsmen, naturists, etc. See: Teddy Roosevelt.

I'm not talking about Climate change hoax. I'm just talking pollution and toxic waste in general. Apparently we don't care anymore that our grandchildren have a clean place to hunt and fish...

6
ivan_iii_of_russia 6 points ago +6 / -0

True: but, in general, philosophically, very little has changed. Ask yourself, if there was a “party switch” (even though it’s completely unclear when you’d precisely define such a switch) would Woodrow Wilson and FDR be considered modern Republicans? Obviously not. They’re much more in line with Democrats.

-4
HillaryAteMyBaby -4 points ago +2 / -6

There was a switch. How else to explain the North being Republican and South being Democrat, but then flip flopping to the reverse. But the switch is not as many think. It's complicated. The switch wasn't about slavery and segregation. And it wasn't really a switch. Both parties were re-born.

Pre-Civil War, Republicans were the party of emancipation, and Democrats were the party of slavery. But more importantly, Republicans were the party of expansive government power, social welfare, and settlement of the west. Democrats opposed big-goverment, and wanted a smaller federal government that didn't tell them what to do (hence why they wanted to secede from the union and form the confederacy).

Things stayed the same for a time after the civil war. But, as the south was now virtually destroyed and poor, they started becoming jealous of the Republican platform of big-goverment, social welfare, and settlement of the west. They wanted a piece of the pie, and slowly started adopting those Republican policies.

Enter 1933, FDR. He goes balls to the wall with The New Deal, looking to out-do the Republicans' support of expansive government power and social welfare.

Republicans were sickened by the new deal, and decided that now they were against big-goverment, because a Democrat was proposing it now. Nevermind that they were for it before.

And then, after 1933, Democrats slowly became more and more in favor of big government and social welfare, and Republicans slowly started being more against it. And that's where we are today.

TLDR:

Before civil war, Republicans were anti-slavery, but pro-big goverment. Democrats were pro-slavery, but anti-big government.

Shortly after civil war, Republicans stayed the same, and Democrats slowly became more like Republicans.

Long after civil war, Democrats became even more big-government than Republicans ever were, and Republicans became anti big-goverment, but not as anti-big goverment than Democrats ever were (pre civil war). Both parties eventually disregarded slavery and segregation issues as they were no longer relevant in modern America. But Democrats held on to their segregationist views for a long time.

This is why you don't see any Democrats driving around with the stars and bars on their pickups, but Republicans do... Even though the actual confederacy were Democrats. It's because Republicans eventually landed on being the party of smaller government and personal freedom, guns rights, etc. That's more important to a modern day southerner than slavery ever was.

. How else to explain the North being Republican and South being Democrat

That's not even true. Source: https://tinyurl.com/yah878lp

1
Mcbignuts 1 point ago +2 / -1

Dat sums it up basically, Republicans wanted to do what was right

Dems naturally had to go the other way

Republicans realized Dat wid slavery n segregation no longer an issue, it Wud be better to stay focused on freedom

1
ivan_iii_of_russia 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don’t agree with your framing of Republicans as “pro big-government before and after civil war until FDR” and that the Democrats were for small government during this period. What about Woodrow Wilson? What about the 20’s? During the late 1800’s, pretty much all presidents were for small government when we compare to today. The reason it looks like the parties switched is not because of changes in Republican positions, it’s mainly because of changes in Democrat positions. Republicans have always been against slavery and continue to promote black independence. The Republicans have always generally held pro-business positions. The Republicans have always held a similar perspective on the correct extent of government power. The Democrats, meanwhile, have constantly changed (Look at all the differences between Andrew Jackson, James Buchanan, Grover Cleveland, FDR, and Obama).

2
SellTheSun 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is bullshit. Fighting over regulation doesn't mean Repubicans are against clean air and water. The 'Clean Air' act for example is climate change BS and Trump was right to gut it.

Live in the Bay, can confirm. This is the most racist place I’ve ever been in my entire life. The old guard’s great, but all the new hyper leftist folks that showed up are inverted KKK members. They learned about the clan and mostly took away that they were persecuting the wrong race, not that racism is bad.

We’re a literal shithole now. People poop in the street.

Those of you in America can only imagine the Democrat corruption in Atlanta maybe only rivaled by Chicago. Just the corruption in the airport alone could fill a textbook. It is truly an affirmative action city from top to bottom

5

Listen here 'itch!

I'm outside a city that's perfectly fine with an autonomous zone.

Pretty sure it could contend in the Corrupt-o-lympics.

The one Republican mayor:

Mayor of Atlanta 1871–1872

Dennis Hammond (December 15, 1819 – October 31, 1891) was born in the Edgefield District of South Carolina. He moved to Georgia where he was a lawyer and, from 1855 to 1861, judge in the superior court Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit.

In Atlanta after the American Civil War, he was politically influenced by William Markham and became a Radical Republican wanting Blacks to have the right to vote.

When Markham refused to run for mayor, Hammond did and was able to briefly unite working-class whites to win the office. This was the last-gasp of Republican power in Reconstruction-era Atlanta.

After serving one term as mayor, he moved to Orlando, Florida in 1880 where he died a decade later.

In the 1860 election, the democratic party split into two between the northern democrats and southern democrats over slavery, which assisted in Lincoln's victory because although the southern democrats got most of the south, they lost out on key north-south border states which could've gotten them a close victory which went to the northern democrats and constitutional union party, and they could've even flipped republican states if the democratic votes weren't split.

We're seeing the democrats split again, but not on location this time, but by where they are on the political spectrum. the social democrats and moderate democrats are gonna split within the next few election cycles, and it'll be glorious to watch.

Watch what happens, should Trump lose. NO future democrat would take responsibility for ANYTHING bad that happens. It would ALL be Trumps fault. But the good things would be owed to the Democrats from day one, of course.
