There is a video game called "This is Police" where you play a Chief of Police, and manage a police station.
Over the course of game play, the Mayor asks you for various favors, or gives you various ultimatums... Almost universally what the mayor asks you to do hurts your station/officers drastically, and puts to risk your ability to beat the game.
Seems like a fairly realistic feature in hindsight...
Had to look it up as I was not familiar with it. When I saw what it was, it kinda brought back memories of playing Police Quest and Blue Force on my old Amiga!
