It's demographics not resources. My neighborhood is going the same way countless have. My parents bought our house 22 years ago. It sits across the street from a park and a lake. Only the first 2 rings of streets around the lake are still nice. Everything around it for 1-2 miles has gone to shit, even though most of the houses still look decent. Walmart came in 2000. Then came the traffic, and the Section8 housing in 2004. The school district demographics also flipped. Nearly all the apartments in the area are now Section8. Each night I can hear sporadic gunfire at 2-4am.

I used to deliver pizza in the area for 12 years and I could easily see how it was going downhill. After Walmart was built and Section8 came, I could tell who was moving into the area. Just before the bottom fell out of the housing market in 2008, I saw a ton of people move in from the shitty parts of town into houses that were just given away. I could tell because the addresses on the checks were from the shit parts of town. Also I got robbed once a year while delivering.
