One of the biggest things I hear from individuals I consider friends that are black when we discuss the current issues is "this is always a problem, we are always afraid, this is how it is to be black."

To which I always counter, "how come we only seem to care during election cycles?"

My challenge to the black community is very simple, when we get through this summer and the issues of the day move on and the news cycle shifts away from racial issues and black concerns, are you going to remember that it wasn't the white people that stopped caring? Or are you going to realize the media is using you for political clout?

While there are tons and tons of completely aware black people, I see far too many of them that I consider friends willing to accept the temporary alignment of their concerns with the media's agenda and less actual rejection of it than we should see.

Every election year, suddenly black concerns are front and center, and as soon as the politicians get what they need and the cycle is over, suddenly the media goes silent on black issues again.

EVERY SINGLE TIME.

So my challenge is simple, if it happens in 2020, its time to cut the cord and stop thinking the media actually cares about you. Because as most of you here probably know the media doesn't care about ANYONE. White, black, brown, whatever. We're all grist in the mill.
