Very much worse. At least then, we didn't see our freedom dangling over the edge of a precipice. Trump was and is absolutely essential. His task so monumental, as he leads the way in pulling us back from the brink. Before Trump The Deep State did not feel threatened the way it does now. The mass brainwashed Left is unlike anything we have had before, or never as revealed, anyway. God bless our POTUS for holding a rally to spread all across the internet. Make it work for instead of against us. Spread patriotism, hope and American enthusiasm. Inspiring confidence as only he can do!

Far, Far worse. Because of one invention...the internet

The internet seems to be a neutral thing that amplifies both the good and bad in our society. Unfortunately it’s being wielded by people who are blind and/or evil.

I remember a lot of bombings and kidnappings. I'm grateful we don't have those now. But you're right about social media messing with people's sense of self. People back then weren't fearful of expressing an opinion. Partly because you wouldn't get canceled but also because no one was so socially sensitive and desperate to be liked. You hate me for my opinion? So what? You're an idiot altogether. /laugh

No it is not as bad now in reality. Race riots, anti-war riots went on and on. But we could live our lives mostly without a 24/7 onslaught. The nightly news however was enough to keep it in the forefront.

Guess that's the point I was trying to make. I never watched the nightly news until i was out of high school. Today we have access to everything, whether good or bad, every second of every day. I have two grown sons and i felt bad watching them go through school because they were tied to a phone at all times. They can't fathom what life would be like without them, as most of can't. To me , that is the reason it is worse today, it feels unhealthy at times. Off my soapbox now...

I thought the Smart Phone was going to be the greatest invention of the century - it's proving to be the greatest social disaster of the century. Generations who have no idea how to interact without an electronic tether.

These generations would have LOVED growing up without this albatross but it was not to be. Unhealthy is the correct description.

I don't have the answer but can tell you that my school teacher daughter has banned all electronics from her home for her 3 & 6 yr old children in an effort to return to the basics. I asked her if she thinks it will work. She replied she doesn't know but she HAS to try.
