I remember a couple of years ago everyone said Trump kept Bolton around so he can play his 'im a madman' strategy while in negotiations with hostile countries. Then this last week even Dan Bongino is acting confused as to why Bolton was ever dragged along.

Bolton was brought in at the start of the North Korea negotiations. My theory is that his role was to play the Bad Cop to Trump's Good Cop. Just having Bolton in the room would make NK sweat, as everyone knows all he wants to do is drop bombs and overthrow regimes. Trump gave him an inch, and he took a mile. Remember the failed overthrow of Maduro in Venezuela? Remember 2 oil tankers in the gulf being attacked and blamed on Iran? These seemed to be Bolton/Pompeo operations.

I mean Trump's foreign policy was essentially "whatever Bolton says, do the opposite" the entire time Bolton was there.
