Times are tough. The world may feel like it's gone topsy turvy and it often seems like the ties that bind us are fraying. They say that it's always darkest before the dawn. Take heart, for you are an American and we do our greatest deeds in those darkest of hours. Washington had Valley Forge. Jackson had New Orleans. Time and again we ride into the hopeless night and bring victory when others would cower.
There are those that seek to convince us that our cause is hopeless. They think that the polls and the protests and the sheer volume of corruption should dissuade us from voting. They fundamentally do not understand the American Spirit. I will leave them with the story of Gen. McAuliffe at Bastogne. He too faced a hopeless situation: cutoff and surrounded by German artillery, supplies and ammunition dwindling, men at the breaking point. The good General was offered terms of surrender by his German counterpart. McAuliffe replied with a single word, "Nuts!"
That's what it means to be American and that's my response to the media. You have me surrounded. Things certainly seem hopeless. I'm not going to surrender. I'm still going to show up. So to you I say, "Nuts!"
There are more of us than anyone would believe. Welcome!
