It's almost as if the transition from comedy central to nbc took away all of Colbert's wit, which sucks as he replaced the 2nd most influential late-night personality behind Carson.
On CC he was playing a character. A good idea too. I mean funny is funny and i think pretending to be a staunch Republican was a funny shtick and it worked well. It was more goofy then the daily show and at the time a lot of Republicans were neocon asshats and warhawks. When he went to NBC we saw the real colbert who has always been a bleeding heart liberal, and without the sbtick that made him famous he became background noise because pretty much every latenight host is the same.
I had the misfortune of sitting through his police video. Jackass openly states that cops have it out for black people without mentioning ANY crime statistics. Truly divisive and shitty.
