I think I first heard about it from Dave Chapelle and I had neighbors that BBQ'd to celebrate it and told me that they would do block parties. They used to live in Texas where I guess it's where it originated. It's been a thing for some time but specifically in the black community which makes sense to me. This sudden observance is such bullshit though. Virtue Signaling and nothing more.
You know it's bullshit because why would having the Trump rally on the same day be a problem? Because they need to pretend that Trump is anti-black. Otherwise, no reason it would be a problem because 90% of the country didn't know it was a thing.
