I have an SKS. It is the most reliable rifle. I feed it garbage and the stupid thing keeps firing. It has never misfired, even with cheap chinese surplus ammo. Anyways, I think there are too many parts to the thing. There is a gas piston that pushes a bolt pushback pin. I mean two rods, one spring, etc etc. Lots of stuff that can get dirty and lost in the dark bush. But you can't argue with success. After a nuclear war, there will be 2 things left: cockroaches and SKS.
We have a fight in our hands in Canada. Cuckdeau just banned all the ARs here. 2 year amnesty, and then the Canadian Feds start kicking down doors to steal them from us. We're about to test if Canadians really do have balls.
