I demand anyone who bitches about white privilege quit appropriating my white culture and give up air conditioning.

All hail the greatness that is Willis Carrier!

And Carrier stood on the shoulders of a doctor in Apalachicola who developed AC for his yellow-fever patients, beginning with his suffering wife:

https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Gorrie

While Gorrie built a room-cooling system in 1842 and received a patent in 1851, there were previous labratory proofs of concept for cooling cycle systems. Later use of a vaporizing liquid medium made the process much more efficient and practical.

Real talk, this man probably had more to do with increasing the health and well-being of the western world in the 20th century than any other person. Air conditioning isn't just making a room comfortable.

Air conditioning is refrigeration. Air conditioning is freezers.

Willis Carrier made it possible to keep food fresh for weeks and to store it for years if necessary. That ability to store food made it feasible for farmers and ranchers to begin to specialize more, increasing crop yields and lowering costs. Farmers and ranchers could now grow more than their buyers could sell because it could be stored. They didn't have to make sure to grow lots of different kinds because it wouldn't travel far, they could just decide to grow corn and only corn and get really good and efficient at it. This increased supply and lowered costs across the board for everyone.

Fresh cuts of meat was the food of the elite before this because the only people who could afford it were either the farmers themselves or people who could afford to have it shipped non-stop on rail cars filled with ice blocks harvested by hand and stored in giant warehouses. Once refrigeration was invented, that same meat could be shipped anywhere and then kept cool once it got there, leading to less waste, less spoilage, therefore lower costs and greater availability, etc.

Willis Carrier indirectly put high quality food on the table of the entire western world in the 20th century and that accomplishment can't be overemphasized.

What wasn't

PraiseBeToScience 10 points ago +10 / -0

Some fucking black woman on Twitter told me it was invented by a black man.

I looked through the entire history of air conditioning, from the very first concept of "compress air, pull the heat out, decompress it" theory all the way to the first commercial system installed.

Zero black people involved.

These people are literally told fucking fairy tales about KANGZ when they're kids and grow up being racist brainwashed fuckignorant bigots.

Don't be shocked. Buddy of mine took Art History to meet women satisfy an elective on his Electrical Engineering track. The class turned out to be a feminist anti-white free for all where it was taught that the black man won the American Revolution. I kid you not. And the kicker... this was in 1989. Do you think it has gotten any better on college campuses. Defund them all.

Oh, and the chicks? He only went out with one and she was, and this is not an understatement, BAT... SHIT... CRAZY!!!

Everything is racist = nothing is racist. It's meaningless now.

Wait, what? I thought it was sexist like 3 months ago. Not it's racist and sexist?!

Calico_fox 8 points ago +8 / -0

You're late to the punch; feminists have been writing articles for some time on how AC is sexists.

This guy also invented the Titanic, I remember his face from that documentary they made in '97 with the footage they rescued from the bottom of the ocean.

Reeee

Are you saying all white people look the same?

rootGoose 4 points ago +4 / -0

Bill Whittle gave a comprehensive breakdown of SJW’s racist cultural appropriations of white culture several years ago:

Note: Flipping the SJW’s rules against them is Saul Alinsky’s Rule #4:

“Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

White ≠ Being a racist

Even if White = Being a racist

Racist white man designing AC system ≠ AC system is racist.

How are you connecting two completely unrelated topics?

A white man designed the microwave, so should you stop using your racist microwave as well?

Following your theme, wasn't the tiolet invented by a white guy?

2

Complex frequency analysis was developed by two guys named Laplace and Euler. Both raging antisemites. Guess we're gonna have to give up electronics guys. Oh wait, I forgot, antisemitism is totally allowed by BLM activists.

Honestly, if we started to ban all things white, then we'd be back in the African continent stage.

Remember when Obama said that people in the third world shouldn't be allowed to purchase air condtioners with the money that they earn? What a tyrannical asshole.

I do commercial HVAC, learned about the history all through trade school, it's pretty god damned interesting if any of you want to dive down the rabbit hole.

artifex_mundi_x 1 point ago +1 / -0

You'd have to tear down every piece of technology. Oops.

1
jiujiujiu 1 point ago +1 / -0

No, you don't get it! This man was only able to invent AC because his entire life and history was propped up on the backs of poor blacks and browns! /s

1
WaffleBiscuit 1 point ago +1 / -0

Replace your AC units with AOC units - AKA pieces of garbage that won't work.

Don't forget his contribution to the copper industry. Without that ,crack and meth heads wouldn't have a reason to get up in the morning to steal.
