I had to make an account here tonight. I lurkered on Reddit from almost the beginning. I lurked here at .win after they forced us out. I'm not the only one; there are thousands of us. We have to be careful about social media. We have to be careful about what we say in social settings. We have to be careful about what we say at work. But we're out here, biting our tongue everyday.
You pedes that do the leg work are the tip of the spear. You're the voice that we can't have. Know that the lurkers are behind you 100% and come November, we will flood the voting booths without ever saying a word. It's going to take every single one of us. If you love this country, you better vote.
God bless you all. God bless our President. God bless the USA.
Exactly. The most I'll give away is the region of the state I live in. Rest is all anonymous.
Second the use of a VPN and highly recommend NordVPN as well, I've used it for a number of years now.
What does a VPN achieve this in case? I've never heard of an ISP doing anything shady with respect to someone's political views? And I'm skeptical of the usefulness of an IP address for a website.
It's not just the ISP, it's the end site or its users/moderators. I used to moderate a specialized forum. Every post had the originating IP address recorded automatically so we could instantly see if a suspended user was attempting to circumvent moderation, also so we could implement IP bans if necessary. A rogue moderator can dox people based on the IP and the content of their posts.
There was a game related board back in the day that allowed anyone to see the IP address of the poster by simply inspecting the page elements.
Further, VPN's create an encrypted connection so man-in-the-middle attackers can't snoop on the content or location. Another factor is if a site is compromised so that the database of users is stolen or exposed. It keeps your real location out of their hands.
In short, you'd have to be able to trust everyone who has or could have access to your information not to use that to breach your privacy or anonymity.
Don't think for a minute the other side won't go after YOU if they are offended enough. Read this, please. CNN nearly destroyed a kid's life over a meme. There are numerous other examples: https://www.independentsentinel.com/cnn-doxxes-then-threatens-wwe-gif-redditor-who-begs-forgiveness/
