I'll tell you why they're doing what they're doing. They've used this tactic successfully before for their propaganda purposes.
They're trying to get people angry, because they NEED to have the 'right' attack them. They are picking the targets purposefully. They are attacking inanimate objects, so when they get attacked (like they want) they will (more precisely, their media will) claim the moral high ground in the aftermath. "We were just taking down these racist statues, then out of nowhere this NAZI hit us with his car!!!!"
Yep, this is the same game-plan they executed successfully in Charlottesville and they've been using the political capital ever since. To this day, they reference the shit THEY MADE HAPPEN by purposefully trying to elicit a reaction.
The best course of action is to let these assholes look like the assholes they are and don't BAIL THEM OUT this time, by being knee-jerk reactionary and fucking stupid.
