I have friends who grew up without a father. Initially they were al sorts of messed up. However; a few of them, once they themselves became fathers decided that they did not want that for their children. They have since grown into great men and fathers and their children are better for it.
Main thing I disagree with is that the welfare system is the biggest reason that the numbers of children (of all different groups) that grow up fatherless is increasing so much.
The modern welfare state was implemented with the goal of creating a permanent underclass, especially within the context of the black family. Destroy the family and you can virtually guarantee a poor, dependent, compliant population. I'd argue that the modern implementation is less about destroying the black family and more about just keeping whole swaths of the population poor, dependent and compliant but its roots were certainly racist.
Part of the reason we had that massive shift in pop culture over the past 50-60 years was the destruction of the family. The welfare state was by no means the only factor but it was still a factor (and probably a big one).
I also agree that we need a massive restructuring and trimming of welfare programs coupled with initiatives to rebuild and strengthen the family in this country.

I love happy endings :)
I watched this, which part do you disagree with?
