It's a perfect storm of the liberal mentality ("why not just do it even if it only makes a small difference") and Karenism that we are seeing. Most people have no use for health and safety rules in their own life beyond a cudgel in which to beat others with Or really rules in general for the most part. Had a long convo with my old man (a younger slightly less agitated Bernie) and it really does boil down to the "well why not just do it" mentality for him although we have a lot of common ground on the overall issue. For example he's kind of upset he can't use his rec center because basically everything he does there (sauna, hot tub and racquetball) are all shut down.
