I went to a black school in a rough neighborhood in Miami for what they called a magnet program. Most of the magnet kids a.k.a. white kids, were pulled out by their families after the local kids had a day called "Cracker Day" where all the whites were supposed to get the shit beat out of them. Fortunately, there were a lot of good black kids there that actually looked out for some of the white kids like me and they took me aside and didn't let the bad kids touch me. I don't know if that was because I was one of the only white kids that would venture away from our little segregated area for magnet kids or because in the non magnet classes, I was proactive about giving the biggest dudes in class the answers to the tests.
